To my bidders: For years I have done business on eBay using the name: gpstorageco*. The items I will be selling from this point on are being sold from my estate and from the estates of friends and relatives.
This WWI Era US War Service Shipbuilding Badge belonged to a friend of mine who recently passed away. He set aside vintage military items over the years. It was found in an old cigar box marked with some other US Navy related items. It is the only one of its type I have ever come across.
This WWI Era US War Service Shipbuilding badge is as found in his collection cabinet drawer(see photos). It appears bronze, is well made and numbered to the reverse (see photos). The front is marked "War Service Shipbuilding - USA (see photos). The reverse has lightly age toned, has a working open catch style pin and there is an issue number stamped to the lower middle (see photos). Overall it measures approximately 2.25 x 1.625 inches (see photos).
This US War Service Shipbuilding badge is clearly an unusual item and the reference I found on it said they were issued to foremen. It shows some light/average wear but remains excellent overall. It would make an excellent item for the WWI homefront collector. First one of these I have seen.
